DIRECTOR

The Totality of All Things

Directed Shannon Patterson

For Shannon, directing is an act of deep collaboration, with the playwright, the actors, and the design team, all in service of telling the most specific, vivid story possible. She is a skilled and attentive communicator who believes that clarity in the rehearsal room unlocks freedom on the stage. Working with actors is at the heart of it. Shannon creates a space where performers feel supported, challenged, and free to take risks, drawing out truthful, spontaneous work that serves the story at every turn. She brings that same spirit of collaboration to the design process, working closely with her creative team to build a clear and compelling visual world around the work. Shannon’s greatest passion as a director is bringing brand new work to life. Shepherding a world premiere means getting first dibs on realizing a playwright’s vision, and that kind of creative responsibility is something she doesn’t take lightly. When a story has never been told before, anything is possible.

The Unrepeatable Moment refers to the spontaneous nature of live performance... directed by Ms. Patterson... it’s an adventurously written, emotionally harrowing duet of brotherly love, performed with the velocity of a vehicle in motion. The effect is thrilling.

Utterly absorbing … the cast [of MUSWELL HILL] is phenomenal … director Shannon Patterson has orchestrated a theatrical opus of staging, comic timing and characterization … Don’t wake up late and miss this gem.

Shannon is a champion for new plays. Her passion and advocacy for my play THE BEAUTIFUL DARK led to its premiere at The Barrow Group and I’m grateful for it. Throughout the process Shannon brought a humanity and authenticity to my characters that shone though in the production. Her direction materialized into a richly realized world that felt like we were observing a family in their own home. I loved collaborating with Shannon and would do it again in a heartbeat.
